Principal's Report
Dear Community,
Happy Father’s Day to those dads/parents/carers that do such an amazing job. I can’t believe we are approaching the last weeks of Term 3. We have so much happening over these last 3 weeks. A huge thank you to our dedicated parents who worked so hard with their kids in creating some amazing Book Week Parade costumes. The kids and teachers had an absolute blast.
In these last weeks we have Interschool Touch Football, Year 5 Camp and Slime Run.
Slime Run will be held on Monday 9th September and promises to be a fun filled day of slime and water slides. Congratulations to Prep K who are at the moment leading the fundraising.
If you have a child who is due to start Prep next year and have not yet registered your interest with the school, I would encourage you to do so. Our Pre-Prep Program has started with more to come in Term 4 and positions are filling fast. Please call Andrea at our front office to register your interest or better still drop in and ask for an enrolment pack.
We will start our Mooloolah Swimming Program early in Term 4. This will provide 9 weeks of swimming lessons and fun at our very own pool. It really is a quality program and the children get brilliant coaching. Our school timetables will change in the upcoming weeks to accommodate our swimming program. Can I remind you that our swimming program is not opt in or out. Unless your child has a genuine medical reason for not attending, then it is expected that they will participate in the swimming program.
Can parents picking up children early from school ensure that they follow the correct procedure. This is the parent reports to the office to sign their child out and the office will call so that you will meet your child at the office. Teachers will not be letting students leave with their parents from class.
Lately over the weekend we have had some visitors in our school grounds climbing onto roofs, breaking into classrooms, vandalising walls. Can I ask all parents to just monitor our school over the school holidays and report to School Watch on 13 17 88 if you see anything suspicious.
There is some brilliant work happening in classrooms and our students will be finishing their assessment and our staff will be finalising their assessment for the term. We really do enjoy getting into classrooms and watching our Mooloolah student’s flourish. Please support your child’s learning by ensuring they attend school. School attendance is an area we are looking at more closely next term. We have found that a majority of students who are struggling academically, also have poor attendance. If your child is sitting on below 85% attendance you may expect a call from the school. We absolutely value and love working with our Mooloolah families to help our kids flourish.
With holidays coming up please stay safe on our roads, look after yourselves, relax, unwind and enjoy time with our lovely children.
Take care stay well, and safe.

Tournament of the Minds
Last Sunday, some of our Year 4, 5 and 6 students represented Mooloolah SS at the Tournament of the Minds at the University of the Sunshine Coast. The Tournament of the Minds is a creative problem-solving competition where students work to come up with a solution to a long-term challenge in the area of Social Sciences, STEM or the Arts which they work on for 6 weeks in the lead up to the competition. They then perform their challenge solution to a panel of judges on the day, as well as completing an additional spontaneous challenge. Our teams have been working so hard in the lead up to this event and we congratulate them all on their efforts. We will be acknowledging their hard work on parade next week, and may even have some of our teams demonstrating some of their challenge solution on stage. Well done!
From the Business Manager
Dear Parents and Carers,
Below are two QParents flyers for you to read. Use the QR codes to access online information regarding how this process will assist you to manage your child’s information securely at the swipe of a screen.
In the coming week I will be emailing all parents and carers with an invitation to register via the secure QParents website. For those who are not comfortable with sharing this information online, contact me on bsm@mooloolahss.eq.edu.au for assistance once you have received your invitation.
Swimming lessons will begin early next term. I would like to trail using the Consent Management in QParents to commence our step into this online area.
I look forward to working with you all to get this up and running.
Kind regards
Linda Rossiter
Camps
Our Year 6 students recently attended school camp at Tallebudgera where they went on the Hero’s Journey to challenge themselves and learn more about what drives them. Here is a report from one of our students on their action-packed camp experience:
Firstly, we got on the bus for a 2h30m trip to Tallebudgera Camp. When we got there, we got to our cabins and unpacked our stuff. Our first activity we went for a walk and got to an Indigenous Museum and got told stories about our elders and the land. They painted our face with ochre. Then we went to our cabins, then walked to dinner. The next day we had breaky and it was Mastermind day and we had to do an escape room which challenged our minds and teamwork. Right after we did Guardian Day and did lots of teamwork games. Then had dinner and went to bed. The next day we had breaky and it was Warrior Day and we went tubing which was so fun. Then we got the bus to rock climbing. The next day was Champion Day where we went for a bush walk and kayak. Later that night we went to dinner then watched the Moana movie then went to bed. On Friday we went body boarding then packed our stuff up and got on the bus back home.

Our Year 5s will be attending camp in the last week of term and we can’t wait to hear all about the fun they have.
Playtime
Just a reminder as the weather heats up, that students are required to have a hat for play and outside activities. If your student has lost their hat, please encourage them to check the lost property box outside the office, and if they cannot locate it, additional hats can be purchased from the uniform shop.
P&C
This Tuesday, we held our Father’s Day Stall, it was very successful and we sold out of all of our gifts. There will be another opportunity to purchase gifts on Thursday 29th August from 8am to 9am if your child was away on Tuesday or forgot to bring their money.
We are also running a mega raffle to support the amazing work that Chappy Steve does.
Tickets are $2 for 1 or $5 for 3, and available at the gate. Raffle to be drawn on Thursday afternoon.
Tuckshop is going well, with the weekly specials a big hit. Week 9 &10 specials will be sushi, pies and sausage rolls. We are also working on the purchase of a new slushie machine in time for Term 4! Tuckshop is looking for additional volunteers! If you have 2-3 hours spare on a Monday morning, please get in touch with Themelina Johns or email pandc@mooloolahss.eq.edu.au
Uniform Shop has run out of some of our larger sizes, and an order has been placed to ensure we have supplies ready for all our year levels late Term 4. Please pop over on Tuesday after school or Thursday before school if you need to check sizes or collect an order. Any orders placed online will be filled for collection the next day the uniform shop is open! We also welcome second hand uniforms to be donated back to the uniform shop if you are not sure what to do with your old (good quality) uniforms and we on-sell these as we get them.
And don’t forget this Friday is a pupil free day!
Next P&C Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 16th October 2024.
Thanks
Katrina
