18 JUNE 2025
PRINCIPAL REPORT

Hello Mooloolah Community,
Last newsletter for the term and what a term it has been. Teachers and students have been working overtime to get assessments done and finalised so that report cards can go out. Parents can expect their child’s report card to be emailed to them next Friday 27 June. I have really loved getting into the classrooms discussing with students their work and what their goals are. I especially loved the old school animal report posters and lifecycles that 2/3T produced.
Yesterday we held our Mooloolah Athletics Carnival and thanks to the hard work of Mrs Muller, staff and volunteers, it was an amazing day! Our Mooloolah kids were great sports and competed with all they had. It was great to see them all with a smile on their face getting stuck in having a go. Congratulations to all our Age Champions and Rungert for yet another win. Let’s see if Westaway and Maddock can pull off an upset next year.
Sadly, at the end of this term we say goodbye to two of the most amazing administration officers, our lovely front office ladies Andrea Thompson and Kirsty Squire will be finishing up with us. As sad as we are to be seeing them leave us, we wish them all the best in their new adventures.
Our whole school rewards day will be on Thursday 26 June, it will be a Disco in the hall and in class activities. Students may wear free dress on this day. Last day of term will be Friday 27 June. Please keep an eye on our school throughout the holidays and should you notice anything suspicious call school watch.
School resumes Monday 14 June. I can’t wait to see you back relaxed smiling and happy.
Go Qld tonight, enjoy the sun, be safe!
Cheers
Scott Thompson
HEAD OF CURRICULUM REPORT

Digital Horizons 1:1 Device Program
Our Year 4 students have been reaping the benefits of the new Digital Horizons program which has seen families with hiring or utilising BYOD so that students each have access to their own laptop.
For their Science and English learning this term, students have been researching information on endangered animals, including life cycles, diet, habitat, threats to their survival and actions being taken to protect their chosen species. Having a 1:1 device has allowed them to develop research skills including critically analysing where they are finding their information, and whether it is a reliable source. They have then turned their research into an informative text using digital tools. All such valuable skills for them to be developing in this digital world!
Thank you to all of our Year 4 parents who have supported the implementation of this program and to our amazing staff who have worked to get it up and running.
Report Cards
Each semester, schools report on student achievement against aspects of an achievement standard that have been taught and assessed during the reporting period. This on-balance judgement is based on the evidence of student performance in their assessment folio. Semester One reports will be sent home via email on Friday 27 June.
The information contained in the End of Semester report is a summary of your child's achievement and efforts. Each student is awarded a level of achievement using a 5 point scale which varies across the years of schooling. Students awarded with a C or Working With are considered to be successfully working at their year level standard.
We are currently in a transition period with a new curriculum implementation, which means that reporting may look different for some year levels. For all year levels, our school is now working with the Version 9 Australian Curriculum for English and Mathematics.
Prep
Our Prep students are working fully with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum. Under Version 9, some subject areas, such as Music, LOTE, Technologies, Science and HASS are being provided and experienced, without being assessed and reported on. English, Mathematics and Health and Physical Education are provided, assessed and reported on which will be reflected in our upcoming Semester One report cards.
Year 1 and Year 2
There is a language change in the reporting scales for Year 1 and Year 2 students. This change ensures the whole early years sector (Prep to Year 2) are consistent with having the same wording. The scale is still a five point scale, but better reflects the nature of early learning for our students are they develop their knowledge and skills.
The five-point scale for Prep-Year 2 is as follows:
Applying | The student is demonstrating deep and broad knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
Connecting | The student is demonstrating deep knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
Working With | The student is demonstrating the expected knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
Exploring | The student is demonstrating partial knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
Beginning | The student is beginning to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
Please note, that LOTE is not an assessed subject in Years 1 and 2 (no change to this).
Years 3-6
There has been further language changes in the Years 3-6 reporting, with all students in these year levels also having a consistent language for achievement scales. These are explained further below:
A | The student is demonstrating deep and broad knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
B | The student is demonstrating deep knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
C | The student is demonstrating the expected knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
D | The student is demonstrating partial knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
E | The student is beginning to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard. |
