PRINCIPAL REPORT

Hello Mooloolah Community,
The end of Term 2 is fast approaching, and we are well and truly into the thick of assessment. Can I please take this opportunity to remind you that everyday counts and we really do need our students at school and on time. School absenteeism can impact significantly on students' learning and wellbeing. Research shows that in Queensland, higher student attendance is associated, on average, with higher student achievement. Additionally, attending school every day helps children to build social and emotional skills such as communication, teamwork and resilience. We really do need your assistance in helping our Mooloolah Legends to be as successful as possible.
Lately we have had a number of reports from community members of students in our school uniform behaving inappropriately and using unacceptable language in and around the park after school. I can appreciate this is after school and is often out of our hands, however being in our school uniform impacts the brilliant reputation we have in our community. Similarly, this behaviour is impacting other students in our school and is being brought into the school grounds. Please discuss this behaviour with your child if they attend the park in the afternoons and note that I will be addressing students who are named for poor behaviour that is impacting other students who attend our awesome school.
We have some exciting events coming up over the next couple of weeks. I can’t wait for our Athletics Carnival which will be held June 17. Can we have everyone crossing their fingers for fine weather please. Then on 26 June we will finish the school year with our whole school rewards day.
Enjoy the sun, be safe
cheers
Scott Thompson
HEAD OF CURRICULUM REPORT

Premier's Reading Challenge
A reminder that our school is taking part in the Premier's Reading Challenge this year! We love to see our students engaging with books, both at school and at home. You can help support this by reading with or to your child for our students in Prep-2 and encouraging your older children in years 3-6 to read independently. Challenge forms are available at the office.
Supporting your child to read
A few weeks ago, I ran an information session around supporting your child to read. For those who were unable to make it, there is an excellent video included here from our departmental reading team which I would encourage all of our early years parents to view. More information is also included in the attached flyer. If you have any questions about supporting your child's reading development, please contact your child's teacher.

Mooloolah Enrichment Program & Fun Fridays
In Weeks 3, 4, 7 & 8 of this term, students in Years 3-6 will engage in our new Mooloolah Enrichment Program, whilst our P-2 students will have in class Fun Fridays. This will occur from 1:40-3:00 on these Fridays.
Students in 3-6 will choose an activity to be part of over this 4-week period. Activities to choose from will include sport (including interschool sport & practice for selected 5s and 6s), Japanese Art and Crafts, STEM, Citizen Science/Nature Observations, Guitar and Visual Art. We will explain these activity choices to our 3-6 students on parade next Monday, with students to allocate their preferences next week. Although we will do our best to match students with preferred activities, students may not receive their first preference in this round of the Mooloolah Enrichment Program. They will remain with the same activity over the 4 week period to allow them to have a deeper learning experience in their enrichment area. We can't wait to see our students in action!

P&C UPDATE
In P&C news this week:
- Thanks to our volunteers who helped out at under 8's day with the sausage sizzle! As always, we appreciate your help!
- Athletics Carnival is coming up on Tuesday 17 June. The P&C have organised a coffee van to be there with coffee and other drinks available. We are also seeing volunteers to assist with tuckshop that day! If you can help out for an hour or two, please let Themelina Johns know. We will make sure you still get to cheer your little super stars on during the morning!
- Trivia Night is coming! The date has been set for Saturday 13 September. Stay tuned for more details. If you would like to help out with organising the night or on the night, please contact Katie Tietjen.
- Our next P&C meeting has been moved to 25 June, so it doesn’t clash with the State of Origin game. I can’t promise it will be as exciting as the game, but we love new members and always have snacks, so come and join us.
See you at school
