PRINCIPAL REPORT

Hello Mooloolah Community,
This term seems to be flying and we are well into it. This week we have an information session on helping your child to read, chicken's hatching in the Prep and 3/4 rooms and next week, we are celebrating Under 8's Day and will have a free dress day for all students with a gold coin donation on Thursday 29, 9am-11am.
Don't forget the public holiday for the Maleny Show on Friday 30 May.
Please take a moment to sign up to QParents, see the information below. We already have so many parents joining, so thank you for that.
Classroom visits
The leadership team visit classrooms to celebrate student learning, and we also conduct Learning Walk and Talks. When speaking with students about their learning we generally ask students five questions to see how they are progressing with their learning.
The 5 questions are:
- What are you learning?
- Why?
- How are you doing?
- How do you know?
- How can you improve?
- Where do you go for help?
These have been going so well and opening up bigger conversations and communication. This is something we can all take into our lives and families as well, asking more questions.
Thanks Mooloolah Tribe!

HEAD OF CURRICULUM REPORT

Chickens!
We've been so excited to have some tiny visitors to our Prep and 3/4A-4C classrooms over the last couple of weeks.
While our Year 3 and 4 classes have been learning about life cycles, our Preps have been learning about informative texts, specifically looking at those related to farm animals. Our Preps and learning to read and write about all sorts of farm animals, including chickens. They were lucky enough to watch one hatch late last week. It has been so much fun!

Mooloolah Enrichment Program
We have kicked off our Mooloolah Enrichment Program over the last few weeks for our Year 3-6 students. Students have enjoyed engaging in the variety of different programs we have available including our STEM construction, and Citizen Science sessions. Along with sport, art, robotics, Japanese arts/crafts and guitar, students have been keen to develop new skills!

National Simultaneous Storytime
Today, Wednesday 21 May is National Simultaneous Storytime Day, and all of our students have celebrated reading by a wonderful story, The Truck Cat, by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. The event aims to promote literacy across Australia and foster the joy of reading. The Truck Cat is a story about "cats and humans, immigration and identity, and homes lost and found (Reading Australia, 2025). Asking your child to tell you about the story is a great way to support their literacy at home, as is reading any and all sorts of books! The more children see you read, and are read to, the more likely they are to read themselves.

Parent Information Session - Reading
Did you know the way we teach children to read has been changing under our new Version 9 curriculum? This is in line with current evidence around the Science of Reading. We will be running a parent information session on Thursday 22 May from 3:15-4:00pm in the Prep B classroom. We invite all parents to come along to find out more about this, and how you can support your child's reading at home.

Mooloolah Enrichment Program & Fun Fridays
In Weeks 3, 4, 7 & 8 of this term, students in Years 3-6 will engage in our new Mooloolah Enrichment Program, whilst our P-2 students will have in class Fun Fridays. This will occur from 1:40-3:00 on these Fridays.
Students in 3-6 will choose an activity to be part of over this 4-week period. Activities to choose from will include sport (including interschool sport & practice for selected 5s and 6s), Japanese Art and Crafts, STEM, Citizen Science/Nature Observations, Guitar and Visual Art. We will explain these activity choices to our 3-6 students on parade next Monday, with students to allocate their preferences next week. Although we will do our best to match students with preferred activities, students may not receive their first preference in this round of the Mooloolah Enrichment Program. They will remain with the same activity over the 4 week period to allow them to have a deeper learning experience in their enrichment area. We can't wait to see our students in action!

P&C UPDATE
This week we have our P&C Meeting on Wednesday 21 May, 6pm in the main office building. One of the things we will be doing this week is planning out our key events and activities for the remainder of 2025. If you are keen to come along and find out what we do or have an interest in joining, please join us!
Uniforms – we are aware that a number of students require Size 12 Polo shirts. These are being ordered, however it will be a few months before they are in stock. If you have any size 12 shirts that you no longer need that are still in good condition, and would like to donate them, please drop them into the uniform shop on Tuesday mornings, or at the office during school hours.
Under 8’s Day is coming up on Thursday 29th May! P&C are donating the sausages, poppers and other BBQ goodies for our Under 8s and we are still seeking volunteers to help on the BBQ. If you can spare a couple of hours between 8am and 11am, please see Donna Aspinall.
A big shout out of thanks to Jenny Wilson and Caitlin Moore who have spent many hours sorting and covering the new decodable readers for our junior years. P&C donated $5,000 towards these readers this year and we are excited for our junior years to start using them!
Tuckshop – thanks as always to our amazing Tuckshop Convenor, Themelina Johns and her merry band of parent and grandparent volunteers! My kids informed me that the burgers this week were amazing! Remember tuckshop can be ordered online via schoolshop.online and must be placed before 5pm on Sundays.

COMMUNITY NOTICES
On behalf of the Australian Air League Inc, we are currently recruiting for Officers (adult volunteers in uniform), as well as cadets for our Strathpine Squadron, offering the chance to engage in fun, educational, aviation-themed activities while developing key life skills.
The Australian Air League welcomes boys and girls from the age of eight, encouraging their interest in aviation while fostering leadership, discipline, confidence, and teamwork. We are a family-oriented organisation that values diversity and inclusivity and encourages parents and community members to volunteer and contribute to their local Squadron.
Our structured yet enjoyable program includes aviation theory, navigation, meteorology, weekend camps, ceremonial drill, leadership training, and even flying opportunities. Volunteers are provided with training to help mentor and support our cadets.
As a youth organisation, child safety is our priority. We maintain strict policies to protect all members, and all adult volunteers are required to hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and complete child safety training.
