PRINCIPAL REPORT

Hello Mooloolah Community,
Term 2 is rolling on and we are well and truly into the thick of our learning cycles. By now our students will know their learning goal and the purpose of their assessments. The leadership teams will be in classrooms next week chatting with our students around their progress, goals and learning. As a school there is a strong focus on reading and writing this year. Keep an eye out for more information on how you can help your child with their reading.
A huge thankyou to all those involved and who attended our school ANZAC Parade. Over the years I have been involved in a lot of these, and this was hands down the best I have been a part of. I must congratulate our school leaders on their first public speaking event representing our school. They were absolutely fantastic. A huge thank you goes to our awesome teacher aide Shel Lencz who put hours into the parade.
Similarly, our cross country ran like clockwork. We had an amazing turn out to cheer on our Mooloolah runners. Besides a brief scud of rain the carnival could not have been run better. I wish the following students the best of luck as they are off to the District Cross Country Trials on Monday 12 May.
5/6P - Jett, Ayce, Tyler, Isla, Addison, Oscar, Kaelan, Evie D
5/6J - Lara, Neve M, Paige M
5/6E - Neve R, Madison D, Lincoln
4C - Joshua, Sam
3/4A - Evie L, Remy
On the day Rungert were the successful house, narrowly defeating Maddock and Westaway.
Don’t forget that if your child has not yet purchased a Mother’s Day gift yet from the school stall it will be operating tomorrow morning as a last chance for students to purchase. I’d love to wish all our mums in our community the happiest of days. We really do appreciate all you do and all you are.
Enjoy the sun, be safe!
Cheers
Scott Thompson

Premier's Reading Challenge
We are excited to have signed up for the Premier's Reading Challenge, which runs from 6 May until 22 August. For a student to successfully complete the Premier's Reading Challenge they are required to read or experience the number of books indicated below:
- Prep to Year 2—read or experience 20 books.
- Years 3 to 4—read 20 books.
- Years 5 to 9—read 15 books.
Children and students who complete the challenge have their efforts recognised through the receipt of a Certificate of Achievement. Experiencing a book includes classroom or at home activities such as shared reading, listening and reading along with a book, or being read to. The requirement for Year 5 through to Year 9 students to read 15 books rather than 20 books acknowledges that older students are likely to select longer, more complex books that may take them longer to read. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability. Forms to record what books students have read are available from the office or from the below link:
https://readingchallenge.education.qld.gov.au/resources/documents-and-forms
Completed forms can be handed to your child's classroom teacher, to the office or to myself.

Parent Information Session - Reading
Did you know the way we teach children to read has been changing under our new Version 9 curriculum? This is in line with current evidence around the Science of Reading. We will be running a parent information session on Thursday 22 May from 3:15-4:00pm in the Prep B classroom. We invite all parents to come along to find out more about this, and how you can support your child's reading at home.
Thank you!
A massive thank you again to our wonderful P&C who have donated $5000 worth of new decodable readers for our school! We are so excited to have these arrive last week. Thank you so much to our volunteers, Jenny Wilson and Caitlin Moore who have been dedicating so much time to getting this onto our library system and covered, and to our new volunteer Alex who came in this week to help as well. Also to our amazing Fran Blight and team of teacher aides who tirelessly work to get these resources ready for our students. If anyone else is available to help with covering these new books, please pop into the library on a Tuesday morning, or contact the school to arrange a time.

Mooloolah Enrichment Program & Fun Fridays
In Weeks 3, 4, 7 & 8 of this term, students in Years 3-6 will engage in our new Mooloolah Enrichment Program, whilst our P-2 students will have in class Fun Fridays. This will occur from 1:40-3:00 on these Fridays.
Students in 3-6 will choose an activity to be part of over this 4-week period. Activities to choose from will include sport (including interschool sport & practice for selected 5s and 6s), Japanese Art and Crafts, STEM, Citizen Science/Nature Observations, Guitar and Visual Art. We will explain these activity choices to our 3-6 students on parade next Monday, with students to allocate their preferences next week. Although we will do our best to match students with preferred activities, students may not receive their first preference in this round of the Mooloolah Enrichment Program. They will remain with the same activity over the 4 week period to allow them to have a deeper learning experience in their enrichment area. We can't wait to see our students in action!
QPARENTS IS COMING
Parents, we are delighted to let you know that QParents is coming to Mooloolah SS. It will provide a convenient way to access your child’s student information and an efficient and effective way to communicate with the school. We are particularly looking forward to using QParents for consent form online for excursions and SRS.
UNDER 8'S DAY
Free Dress day at school for all students!
We have booked a chocolate fountain for Under 8's Day (Dolce Belgian Chocolate) drizzled over fresh strawberries. This company also operates at the Eumundi markets on the weekends. AFTER THE BELL
P&C UPDATE
A big shout out to all our volunteers this week!
P&C Election Day Bake Sale and Sausage Sizzle – this event raised over $1000 between the sausage sizzle and bake sale. A big thank you to all our families who baked and came along early Saturday morning to help set up, cook and serve at our event. The money raised goes towards funding the recently purchase early year’s readers. We also had a number of our school leaders and some younger students helping out with the bake sale and appreciate them giving up their Saturday morning to assist!
We’ve also had the Mother’s Day Stall this week and would like to thank the P&C Executive team (Themi, Katie, Amanda and Lin), along with Kara Tonissoo for the behind-the-scenes work organising the gifts for the Mother’s Day Stall and manning it on Tuesday. If your child missed out on purchasing a gift on Tuesday, we will be doing a catch-up morning before school this Thursday.
Mothers Day Raffle tickets will be available for sale each morning this week at the school gates. $2 for 1 ticket or $5 for 3 tickets.
The next P&C Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 21 May, 6pm in the main office building. We’d love to see you there!
Katrina Mills
P&C President
